Balekini, Menteng, Central Jakarta
Balai RW is a typical communal space provided to fulfill the social and political activities of the community in both rural and urban settlements in Indonesia. Since 1980 Balai RW 01 Kampung Cikini Kramat – either in hardship or joy situations, was withstood as the main gathering place and center of activities. However, Balai RW was continuously ageing, deteriorating, and almost collapsing as time went by.
LAZNAS Baitulmaal Muamalat, in collaboration with the Department of Architecture Faculty of Engineering Universitas Indonesia, organized the program to upgrade the building and transform Balai RW into BALEKINI (Balai Cikini). The new Balikini is expected to assist residents in mitigating the pandemic, improving the quality of society, and fostering community independence.
